Some kind of blog
The Irascible One

How’d your people do? --- The Irascible One’s record remains solid. “I haven’t picked a winner in decades,” I exclaimed wildly to an empty newsroom.  I wonder just how many signs will actually be taken down now that the field has been narrowed.  Just because it’s the law doesn’t mean a wanna be politician is going care, you silly person.

Pitiful --- The turnout for the Primary is a pretty sad commentary of our way of life.  Pretty arrogant to say, we demand democracy in other countries when we don’t really give a damn about it.  Less than 20 percent of the registered voters bothered to voice an opinion.

It’s this kind of apathy that gave us George W. Bush and Bill Clinton.  We really can do better, Mr. Jefferson, sir.

•••

Convention time --- Democrats will be gathering in Denver shortly with Republicans heading for the Twin Cities.  The big fight for donkey land will be whether or not Hillary’s name will be placed in contention.  There’s a big push to do so, and those doing the pushing say it is just and right that she should get her day.  With Hillary and Bill, though, this could also be a push to over throw the Barack people and steal the delegates.

A floor fight could develop because Obama’s people do not want Hilary’s name thrown out, taking away his shine.

New history blog --- Dennis Cassinelli, he the author and historian, has created a new blog pertaining to Virginia City and the Great Basin.  He says he will put articles up, at least once a week, on mining, the Comstock lode, early Italian ranchers, and even, “back as far as 10,000 years” when lakes and marshes covered northern Nevada.  Go to http://web.mac.com/denniscassinelli/ .

Close but no banana --- All four of the candidates running for Supreme Court came in within three percentage points of each other.  As noted elsewhere, some seven percent of the voters hit the “none of these candidates” button.  So far, no call for a recount, but that would not be out of line considering the closeness of the vote.

Hot, Hotter, Hottest --- Enough already.  While those in southern Nevada are used to temps above 100 during the summer months, those in the north get pushed out of shape with three or four days above 90.  It’s been almost 40 days straight with days over 90 degrees in Reno and air conditioner sales are through the roof.  As are tempers, beer sales, and trips to the Truckee River for a quick dip.

The Reno city fathers and mothers spent millions of dollars to build a white water park in the middle of downtown Reno, hoping it would bring thousands of kayakers into the area.  It has brought thousands of people into the area, all right, but most are locals swimming in the wonderful hydrological pools built for the boaters.

The Irascible One has gone down the “chutes” several times this summer and will several more times.  I rather doubt that Reno officials had any idea of what the popularity of that park was going to be with locals.
