Washoe County Clerk Amy Harvey is going to increase the cost of a notary fee by well over 30 percent because of modern technology. The fee increase for notary service increased from $15 to $20 July 1. It seems the legislature in SB 131 mandates updates in technology and this is one way to pay for it. Hmmmmmm. Supposedly now, marriage license records, commission meeting minutes, fictitious fim names, and histrorical records dating back to 1861 will now be available on line. Seems his ratings have fallen drastically, to under 20 percent approval. That's not a good start to his reelection campaign. Yucca Mountain will probably get him reelected, nothing else. ••• Tahoe burns --- For more than 20 years foresters have been screaming about clearing the underbrush and thinning the dead and dying trees in the Sierra Nevada, and homeowners and conservationists have fought the idea tooth and nail. It's a hard lession to learn, but the foresters are right. One old coot said if he had a $5 million home at Tahoe burned to the ground right now, he might just consider a class action suit against the Sierra Club. Might be just a bit drastic ... and then again ... ••• Taking personal responsibility --- To be a professional athlete today one must be very young. Young of course comes in many flavors, such as young at heart, young in age, and the one we're going to discuss briefly, immature young, as in Pacman Jones, or (pick a name). Being big and strong enough to be a professional athlete, and being athletic enough to earn an unreasonable amount of money does not make one smart, intelligent, mature. A man is probably going to be crippled for life because of that immaturity and Pacman Jones doesn't even recognize that he had some part to play in the tragedy. And you know, he went to college on an athletic scholarship. I wonder if his coach makes as much as University of Nevada coaches? It's bad enough the owners of the strip club in Clark County don't give a damn that one of their employees is messed up for life, it's bad enough that the NFL only gave a fine and short suspension, the worst part is Pacman Jones is so selfish that he doesn't give damn. In the Coliseum days of ancient Rome, the less than talented but equally egotistical died. Just a thought. ••• More fire --- Before you attempt to prove that you know everything there is about everything and burn the neighborhood down, think for just a minute how embarassing it will be, not the costs, you're capable of paying for anything, but having coffee and crullers with the neighbor whose house you destroyed. Kind of a rough way to say it I guess, but at some point this summer it will happen and chances are you might end up knowing the blockhead that fired the roman candle.
